Fraunhofer MEVIS proudly congratulates Alessa Hering for winning the first prize of the prestigious Fraunhofer ICT Dissertation Award 2024. The award recognizes her exceptional dissertation titled “Deep-Learning-based Image Registration and Tumor Follow-Up Analysis,” lauded by the jury for its outstanding contributions to medical image processing.
In its statement, the jury writes:
“Ms. Hering has not only developed new approaches for precise image registration and tumor response prediction, but has also established herself as an integral part of the scientific community. Through her close collaboration with international research teams and her contributions to high-impact publications, she has significantly expanded the boundaries of her field and opened up new avenues for medical image processing. Her contributions have been recognized with a number of awards and honors.

The Fraunhofer ICT Dissertation Award, initiated in 2015 by the Fraunhofer ICT Group, honors dissertations from Fraunhofer institutes that demonstrate exceptional innovation in computer science, mathematics, or related disciplines. The award includes a prize of 5,000 euros for first place and supports the further qualification of employees—one of the core responsibilities of the individual Fraunhofer institutes.
