Dr. Joachim Gergii receives "Best Paper Award"

The award was handed over on the Workshop VRIPHYS 2010, which took place from November 11th to 12th in Copenhagen, Denmark, and was organized by the Department of Computer Science of the University of Copenhagen in cooperation with the Eurographics Association. This year, the award was a Tesla™ C2050 computing processor sponsored by NVIDIA.

The awarded paper investigates a framework for physics-based simulation and visualization of deformable volumetric bodies in real time. Based on the implicit finite element method a geometric multigrid approach for the efficient numerical simulation of elastic materials has been developed, and especially the treatment of boundary conditions has been improved. Such methods are the basis for a number of medical applications as for instance multimodal image registration or surgical planning.
