Launch of the AI Center for Health Care in the U Bremen Research Alliance

A virtual “AI Center for Health Care” is being established in the U Bremen Research Alliance (UBRA). For this purpose, the state of Bremen provides funds that are awarded to forward-looking projects in the UBRA. In the course of a competitive call for proposals, five projects were recently selected to receive funding in the coming years. The projects, in which Fraunhofer MEVIS is involved, will start this year.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is of critical relevance, especially with regard to health care research. The goal of the U Bremen Research Alliance is therefore to establish an “AI Center for Health Care” as a virtual institute of cooperation across institution boundaries. “Against this background and in order to promote the growth of joint research projects in the field of AI and health, UBRA has for the first time announced funding for cooperative research projects located at the intersections of the member institutions in 2021,” explains Prof. Dr.-Ing. Horst Hahn, spokesman of the lead project “Artificial Intelligence” in the UBRA and one of the initiators of the project.

From the applications submitted, a commission has now selected five projects that will start before the end of the current year. The basis for this is funding provided by the state of Bremen to U Bremen Research Alliance e.V. “We are pleased that we were able to identify five exciting and forward-looking projects from the large number of applications, which not only link the topics of artificial intelligence and health research more closely, but also further promote the already close cooperation between our member institutions,” says Prof. Dr. Iris Pigeot, deputy chairwoman of the Alliance.
