As an institute working with human medical data from all over the world, Fraunhofer MEVIS relies on diversity as an important asset. To raise awareness of diversity and unconscious bias and increase the visibility of diversity at the institute, Fraunhofer MEVIS is celebrating German Diversity Day 2024 on May 28 with on-site and online activities. These include presentations and workshops on various aspects of diversity, followed by a joint lunch and discussion with homemade international dishes.
As an institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, a signatory to the Diversity Charter for Germany (“Charta der Vielfalt”), Fraunhofer MEVIS is taking part in the German Diversity Day activities and making its commitment publicly visible. In addition, Fraunhofer MEVIS has been initiating and supporting events, workshops, and projects that promote diversity for more than a decade, including
- Annual Diversity Workshops since 2021, resulting in working groups on various aspects such as diversity, gender, internationality, communication, and team building—supported by Fraunhofer headquarters.
- Artist residency STEAM Imaging, since 2017, taking place for the fifth time to foster the engagement and ownership of future technology. The project addresses school students living in social areas with highly diverse cultural backgrounds, and who are aspiring first in family academics and international artists from diverse cultures—funded by the Fraunhofer International Talent School Bremen.
- Annual Girls' Day and Informatica Feminale, since 2009. The aim of these longstanding programs is to inspire and support women and girls for a career in STEM sciences—funded by Fraunhofer MEVIS.
- Ongoing partnership with Oberschule am Waller Ring (formerly part of the Walle Schulzentrum) in Bremen since January 2023.
- Disability awareness activities in cooperation with Inklupreneur, an initiative whose mission is to promote inclusion in the workplace.
